The total construction area of the Project is 640,000 square meters, with a foundation pit area of 100,000 square meters. Construction involves five foundation pits, representing a large volume of construction. The Project is an Asian Games project with a tight construction schedule, 4.5 months shorter than the original bidding schedule.
The daily volume of excavated earth for the Project was 15,000 cubic meters, with only one driveway available for access, and vehicles entering the site had to pass through the construction site of Section 1.
The basement of Zone C1 of this Project was constructed by means of the reverse construction method. There were a total of four underground floors, and the area of the reverse construction method construction foundation pit was 41,000 square meters. The reverse construction method requires extremely high professional expertise.
The total area of the foundation pits for the Project was 100,000 square meters, with a maximum depth of 19.55 meters. The north and south sides of the Project are adjacent to the high-speed railway and subway projects under construction.
Construction work was required to be carried out without disrupting ongoing flights at the airport, with high demands on the quality, safety and civilized construction. Traffic within Section 2 of the site was intense, and the reverse construction method required a high degree of expertise.
The Project was a “BIM+Smart Construction Site” construction mode, which involved a large amount of BIM consulting, modeling, software design and integration with the smart construction site. Many issues were unknown and there was no previous experience to draw on.
Personnel control was difficult, with 5,000 people working at peak periods; the volume of concrete pouring was massive, with a total concrete casting volume of 460,000 cubic meters; the error rate was high, with estimations generally adopted by foremen, resulting in an error rate of around 2%; and the demand for materials was also high, with 645,000 square meters of formwork, 80,000 tons of reinforcement steel, 16,000 tons of steel pipes, and 3,200 tons of buckling members for the Project.
Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport Project is a typical building construction project, which consists of a 4-story basement, two-to-three-story podiums, two 10-story passenger overnight accommodation buildings (star-rated hotels), as well as two 9-story ancillary business buildings. The maximum building height is 44.5 meters, the total construction area is 640,000 square meters, the underground construction area is 393,000 square meters, and the aboveground construction area is 247,000 square meters.
